Former Inter midfielder Stephan Dalmat feels that, whilst Simone Inzaghi proved himself to be a top coach at the level of Lazio, he has yet to really show that he is capable of coaching at the level of the Nerazzurri.

Speaking on his Instagram story, via FCInterNews, the Frenchman suggested that whilst Inzaghi should not be “massacred” for the job he has done in charge of Inter, it must be noted that the Nerazzurri requires something more than the Biancocelesti.

When Inzaghi arrived at Inter from Lazio in the summer of 2021, he did so as one of the most highly-rated coaches within Italian football.

The former striker had slowly built this reputation for himself starting with his work coaching the Biancocelesti’s youth team and then over several seasons in charge of the senior side.

Whilst there have undoubtedly been positives to Inzaghi’s work as Inter coach, there have also been a number of doubts left unanswered, and in the view of Dalmat this is reflective of the fact that more is required of the 46-year-old than had been in the Italian capital.

“He did well at Lazio, but the level is higher at Inter,” the former midfielder argued of Inzaghi, “you have to be a top coach to be at this club.”

“For me he hasn’t made that leap, he’s still young, let’s see what happens next season, even if the club might be thinking about a change.”

“But for now we have to support him, not massacre him, because there are still goals to achieve this season, the Coppa Italia, going on in the Champions League, finishing second in the league and reaching the Champions League,” he added.

“We have to support the coach,” he stressed.

“Let’s hope that in the end he at least reaches the minimum objective for Inter,” he added.
