Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi feels that whilst Lecce will be a tough opponent, his team can try to impose themselves on this evening’s match.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN ahead of this evening’s Serie A match, via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri coach also made clear that it is only natural for the club directors like Beppe Marotta to ask for more from the team.
Inter will be desperate to get back to winning ways against Lecce this evening, considering the damage that was inflicted by last weekend’s league loss away to Bologna.
The Nerazzurri will not be underestimating a Lecce side who have earned a place for themselves comfortably in midtable in their first season back in the Italian top flight.
However, for Inzaghi’s part, the coach is expecting a high standard of performance from his players, and he understands that it’s only natural for this to also be the case from the club.
“We know that we’re coming up against an opponent who’re in form, but we want to play our game right from the first minute,” he said.
Of the decision to start Edin Dzeko rather than Romelu Lukaku, Inzaghi said that “When you play a lot of matches, you have to make selection decisions.”
He added that “The substitutes will also be very important as always.”
Asked if the team have taken on the requests of Marotta and the other directors that they do better, the coach replied that “We’re always honest with each other, and when we lose we have to analyze the reasons why.”
“It’s only natural for the club to have these expectations from us,” he added.
