Inter defender Matteo Darmian feels that the team were hungry to get back on their feet and redeem themselves following their loss to Bologna last weekend.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN after the Nerazzurri’s 2-0 win over Lecce in Serie A, via FCInterNews, the 33-year-old stressed that the performance was partly a reaction to the disappointment of last Sunday’s loss away in Emilia-Romagna.

Inter faced another tough setback in the context of their season in the form of their loss away to Bologna last weekend.

Anything other than a win against Lecce in this evening’s match would have only deepened the sense that a crisis was on the horizon.

Accordingly, a tidy win against a Lecce team who have shown that they can cause problems for anyone in Serie A with their organized and physical style proved to be very important for getting things moving in a more positive direction once again.

Darmian called them “Three massive points.”

“We wanted to get back to winning ways, also considering other results this weekend, and we showed the right attitude,” he continued.

“There was no particular change compared to the loss a week ago, we just wanted to redeem ourselves,” he continued.

“We got back on track in the league today and we have to keep going.”

As far as his best role, Darmian said that “I always try to do my best and keep improving, whether I’m playing at wingback or on the side of a back three, I try to make myself available to the coach.”
