Inter could see real competition for the left-wingback spot over the rest of the season with Robin Gosens getting back to his best.
This is the view in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who suggest that Federico Dimarco will face some real competition for his starting spot if the German keeps up with his form from the team’s last two matches.
Gosens, who was largely kept out of Inter’s starting eleven by Ivan Perisic last season and by Dimarco this time around, made two starts in the league for the first time since joining the Nerazzurri, against Bologna and Lecce.
In truth, the reason for this was quite evidently an injury to Dimarco.
However, the 28-year-old made the most of his opportunity, as he was one of the few players to emerge with any credit from his performance against Bologna and then was a key part of yesterday’s win against Lecce.
Dimarco being back from injury will certainly give Inter another valuable player, and the 25-year-old may return as the starting left-wingback.
However, the sense is that now there may be some actual open competition for the starting spot rather than a well-established pecking order.
