Inter Vice-President Javier Zanetti has no doubt that the team will have to produce an excellent performance in order to reach the quarterfinals of the Champions League in next week’s clash with Porto.
Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, the Argentine also gave his thoughts on former Inter and current Tottenham Hotspur coach Antonio Conte as he prepares to go head-to-head with AC Milan.
Inter gave themselves an advantage in the first leg of their round of sixteen tie against Porto, but only the slenderest one possible after a 1-0 first leg win at the San Siro.
The second leg of the tie at the Estadio do Dragao next week promises to be a difficult match for both sides, and likely to be decided by which of the two is able to produce the best football they are capable of.
Zanetti suggested that “It will be a complicated match, complete focus will be necessary.”
“I remember well the matches against [Porto] from when I was a player, we’ll come up against an intense atmosphere,” he continued.
“They’ll want to turn it around, but we’ll be ready.”
“We have to see the best Inter, fully switched-on, and only then can we have our say in the tie,” the Vice-President suggested.
Zanetti also looked ahead to tomorrow evening’s Champions League clash between Spurs and Milan, noting that “I’m expecting a Champions League match between two great teams who’ll do everything possible to reach the quarterfinals.”
“Milan go into it with an advantage, but it won’t be easy in England.”
Of former Nerazzurri coach Conte, Zanetti said that “Antonio always makes the difference when he’s on the bench.”
“He’s a meticulous coach who always conveys his passion to the team,” he said of the former Inter boss.
