The form of midfielder Inter Henrikh Mkhitaryan since joining from Roma in the summer has completely altered what the Nerazzurri’s transfer strategy will be in midfield in the upcoming summer window.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition  of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who note that with the Armenian now nothing short of integral in midfield, the Nerazzurri are drawing up a new list of targets.

Mkhitaryan arrived at Inter last summer with the expectation of being an experienced backup option in central areas.

Instead, the former Arsenal and Manchester United man has become one of the first names on the teamsheet, really establishing a role for himself during the injuries to Marcelo Brozovic.

Even with the Croat back from injury, Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi still trusts Mkhitaryan to start virtually every match.

Now, the feeling is that even if the Armenian will become more of a backup option sooner or later as his fitness declines a bit with age, he will still be a key player for at least one further season.

Accordingly, the sense is that there is no need to sign another player with Mkhitaryan’s characteristics in the immediate future.

Instead, players like Barcelona’s Franck Kessie, Borussia Dortmund’s Emre Can, and Valencia’s Yunus Musah are among those being sought, as the club feel that they can upgrade the slot opened up by Roberto Gagliardini’s departure with a player of a similar profile but greater quality.
