Legendary former AC Milan coach Fabio Capello feels that Inter striker Lautaro Martinez has truly found his feet as a leader at the Nerazzurri.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInter1908, Capello praised the Argentine for the increased role he has had not just in terms of his goalscoring and holdup play, but also how he has inspired the team onwards.

Martinez is now midway through his fifth season as an Inter player.

If the Argentine had not initially imposed himself all that much given that he arrived at a young age from Racing Club, his influence has now grown to the point where the 25-year-old regularly wears the captain’s armband, having been tipped to inherit it permanently.

Moreover, the armband has been more than just a gesture for Martinez, who has become a player who leads by example and who his teammates look to for inspiration.

“Lautaro is rightly becoming the captain, he deserves it based on what he’s done,” Capello argued.

“He feels like a real Interista, and that’s a very important quality for him.”

“He’ll have offers to leave, but he’s become mature,” the former coach noted.

Capello suggested that “He’s the team’s true leader, he sacrifices himself, runs, and helps his teammates, it’s great to see.”

“He’s fundamental to this Inter team, that can hardly be questioned.”
