The presence of a reliable option on the right flank like Matteo Darmian could be very important for Inter in transitioning away from Denzel Dumfries should the Dutchman be sold this summer.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInter1908, who report that the reliability of the 33-year-old is one of the reasons why the Nerazzurri could be willing to cash in on Dumfries during the summer transfer window.
If Dumfries were to be sold, Inter would immediately look for a replacement for the former PSV man.
However, as was evident when the Dutchman arrived to replace Achraf Hakimi at the start of last season, there is no guarantee of a new player in the wingback role settling in right away.
It is for this reason that the presence of Darmian could be crucial in making the transition period more manageable.
Whilst there would always be the risk of any player brought in to replace Dumfries needing a period of several weeks or months to find their feet in the role, the fact that Darmian has committed his future with a contract extension means that there would be the guarantee of a reliable option in the meantime.
