The long-term future of wingbacks Robin Gosens and Denzel Dumfries is far from certain, even as the pair have emerged as potentially key players for the run-in of the current season.

This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who suggest that whilst the duo look set to have an important role to play over the coming weeks, past the end of the season their futures are unclear.

Injuries to Federico Dimarco and Milan Skriniar respectively have meant that Gosens and Dumfries have started Inter’s past two matches.

The German put in two of his most assured displays since joining the club in January of last year against Bologna and Lecce, whilst the Dutchman put some wobbly form behind him with an important assist against Lecce.

The sense is that in both cases, possible injuries to other players, the need to use the squad depth over a packed fixture list down the stretch, and the need for the tactical impetus of attacking wingbacks, has made it so that Gosens and Dumfries will be key to the Nerazzurri.

However, once the season ends, it has been widely reported that Inter are ready to listen to offers for Dumfries, and so in this sense a good run of matches over the rest of this season could represent a final salvo at the Nerazzurri for the former PSV man.

Meanwhile, whilst Gosens has intimated that he only sees his future as being at Inter, the sense is still there that the Nerazzurri could listen to offers for him in the summer transfer window.
