Inter striker Lautaro Martinez feels that right now he is in the very best form he’s been in since joining the Nerazzurri in 2018.

Speaking to Argentine broadcaster TyC Sports, via FCInterNews, the 25-year-old also admitted that he played through some significant physical pain in order to be available earlier on in this season.

Since the return from the World Cup, Martinez has been by far one of Inter’s outstanding performers, as he has been a regular source not just of goals, but also holdup play, defensive workrate, and leadership on the pitch.

The Argentine, who has had some period where he had been criticized for lack of consistency in the past, has become the player who sets the tone virtually week in and week out for Inter.

For his part, Martinez feels that this run of form that he’s been on represents the best that he’s been playing since his arrival at the San Siro.

“I’ve been here for five seasons,” he said, “working hard every day always pays off.”

“Being captain of this great team gives me a great deal of pride,” he continued.

Martinez noted that “There have been many periods where I’ve been playing well, but the moment of form that I’m in right now has definitely been my best period since I joined Inter.”

“From the captain’s armband to the number of goals I’ve been scoring, I’ve been playing nearly every match and playing at a consistent level, which is important for me and for the club.”

Of the World Cup with Argentina, the 25-year-old said that “It’s something I think about every day.”

“We’ve written a chapter in the history of our country.”

“In a year and a half we’ve done everything possible with the national team,” the Argentine noted.

“I arrived came into it carrying an injury that I’d picked up during a match against Viktoria Plzen, but it wasn’t a time that I could let my teammates down, Lukaku and Correa were also injured at the time and we weren’t where we wanted to be in the table, we’d dropped a lot of points.”

“I did the injections and I played through the pain,” he looked back.

“It was impossible for me to train consistently, I spoke to the medical staff and then after the match against Australia I took a few days rest, and then after a few more injections, I rested again, now I’m feeling good,” Martinez said.
