Milan Mayor Beppe Sala is still waiting to see whether Inter and AC Milan will conclusively decide to give up on the San Siro and pursue alternative plans.
Speaking to the press, as reported by FCInterNews, Sala suggested that he is still not giving up as long as the future remains uncertain, with the Rossoneri ready to present their idea of moving their plans to the La Maura area.
The past few weeks have been very eventful ones in the new stadium situation in Milan.
Milan look to have finally lost patience with the process of getting the new stadium plans in place of the San Siro approved after even the public debate and the conditional approval of the City Council don’t look to have gotten them any closer to starting construction.
It looks increasingly probable that the Nerazzurri and the Rossoneri will go their separate ways, and prospectively one or both clubs could even build outside of the city itself.
“I’m obviously worried about it, but I’m not one to give up so I still think that it’s something that’s yet to be determined,” Sala said.
“In the meantime, technically, as of today, I can’t express any other opinions publicly because I’m waiting for two things,” he continued.
“The first is whether the teams, who had previously signed a memorandum between them for the new stadium near the current Meazza, want to send a clear signal that they intend to abandon that path,” the Mayor explained.
“Then, if Milan, as promised, present a project for the La Maura area which is more than just an idea, in three weeks’ time.”
“Until these two things happen, I objectively have nothing else to say,” Sala made clear.
