The Mayor of the Rozzano area has made clear that his area would be ready for Inter to start construction on a new stadium as early as next year, but that he believes that the Nerazzurri’s intention is still to build within the city of Milan.

Speaking to Italian news outlet FCInter1908, the Mayor of Rozzano Giovanni Ferretti De Luca suggested that it could be the case that the Nerazzurri are trying to put pressure on the city of Milan by showing that they are ready to approach other communes as well.

Now that Inter and AC Milan’s plans of building a new stadium in place of the existing San Siro appear to be hanging on by a thread, there has been significant uncertainty about where the Nerazzurri will go to if the San Siro option doesn’t pan out.

A few different alternative areas have been suggested as possibilities for the Nerazzurri, with the commune of Rozzano among them.

According to Rozzano Mayor De Luca, his area would be accommodating, and construction could begin in a fairly prompt manner, although he does not expect that this would be Inter’s first choice.

“If they decide to, Inter will first have to go to the owners of the land that they plan to build on, and then they’ll both come to me with confirmation that an offer has been made,” the Mayor explained.

“I would like to reiterate that I would be positively disposed towards the possibility, but that at this point no direct or indirect talks have taken place with Inter,” he added.

Asked if he expects that the Cabassi area, which has been rumoured to be one that Inter are looking into, would be a suitable area in which to build the new stadium, De Luca replied “Absolutely, yes.”

“I don’t believe that there’s any other area out there that would offer the same advantages,” he continued.

“The choice, however, remains with Inter,” De Luca stressed.

“And from my perspective, I can tell you that at the end of the day this is more of a manoeuvre by the club to put pressure on the Mayor of Milan, which remains their first choice,” the Mayor suggested.
