Former Inter defender Daniele Adani feels that Romelu Lukaku should be the striker to start alongside Lautaro Martinez in the Nerazzurri’s Champions League round of sixteen second leg match against Porto.

Speaking to Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, the former defender gave the view that Lukaku should be considered first-choice, and also that midfielder Kristjan Asllani should receive more playing time.

It looks all but certain that Martinez will be one of the two starting striker for Inter against Porto given the importance of the match and the Argentine’s outstanding form.

However, as far as which out of Lukaku and Edin Dzeko will start alongside the 25-year-old in attack, that is less clear.

From the point of view of former defender Adani, however, it should be Lukaku who is given a chance from the start against Porto.

Asked which of the two should start against Porto, he said “Lukaku, he should be considered first-choice.”

He also argued that the Belgian should be kept past the end of this season, giving the view that “The point of bringing back Lukaku isn’t just to give up on him after a year, you have to let him find consistency.”

Regarding Asllani, Adani stated that “This hasn’t been a wasted season for him, but the coach should have used him more.”

“Instead I’ve seen that Inzaghi often prefers Gagliardini, that’s a shame because he’s a player who deserves to be considered.”

“Asllani has the potential to become first-choice in his role,” Adani continued, “he just has to stay and be patient.”
