Roma forward Paulo Dybala has revealed that it was a phone call from coach Jose Mourinho which convinced him to join the Giallorossi on a free transfer after a summer transfer window which saw him heavily linked with a move to Inter.

Speaking to Spanish news outlet Marca, via FCInterNews, the 29-year-old also admitted that he is not sure what the future holds for him.

Dybala had been persistently linked with Inter for much of last summer.

After it became clear that the Argentine would be leaving Juventus on a free transfer when his contract expired, the Nerazzurri were one of the first clubs to be linked with him in reports.

There were also a number of other clubs in Serie A as well as in La Liga and the Premier League who had been linked with the Argentine’s signature, but the sense was that Inter were in pole position to bring him in at least according to reports.

However, the Nerazzurri never got a deal with Dybala over the line, and it was Roma who swooped in and brought him to the Italian capital.

“Before I arrived I had already spoken with Jose on the phone,” the 29-year-old noted.

“His whole manner and the way he communicates, how he approaches every training session and every match, I’m a big fan,” Dybala said of Mourinho.

“That call was what convinced me to come,” he said.

The former Juventus and Palermo player noted that “I had the opportunity to go and play with some of the best players in the world, and now I’m playing under one of the best coaches, he’s a natural winner.”

Of his future, Dybala stated that “We’ll certainly talk about it later.”

“Right now, my future is here with Roma, I want to bring this team back to the top and I believe that we can do it.”

“I don’t know what my future holds, though,” the 29-year-old added, “right now my focus is entirely on the matches.”
