Spezia head coach Leonardo Semplici is hoping that his team can be another lower-table Serie A team to get a surprise result against Inter on Friday.

Speaking in a press conference, as reported by FCInter1908, the coach suggested that, whilst the Nerazzurri are undoubtedly a team with a lot of quality, they could still be vulnerable given some of their recent struggles for consistency.

Inter’s problem in recent weeks hasn’t been the “big” matches, but rather the less auspicious-seeming occasions.

Dropped points against the likes of Monza, Empoli, Sampdoria, and Bologna since the return from the winter break mean that there is no way that the Nerazzurri will be taking any result for granted against relegation-battling Spezia.

A win against Lecce last weekend could give the Nerazzurri a little more confidence, but for his part Semplici is hoping that he and his players can cause them to slip up again.

“I think Inter have the strongest squad in the league,” the Spezia coach said.

“I know their players and coach, there’s no questioning their quality.”

“When playing these kinds of matches, you have to try and find ways to fill the gaps and limit them,” Semplici went on.

“They had some problems with consistency, I hope they do again on Friday,” the coach joked, “but it’s up to us to cause problems for them, me and my players have to find a way.”

“If we only play a defensive match it’ll be difficult to bring home a result, so it’s up to us to play our game and try to make life difficult for them.”

“I’ve read that they could have some squad turnover, but if Lukaku doesn’t play, then Dzeko does, and the quality doesn’t drop off,” Semplici noted.

“They have a top-quality squad, but I’m convinced that we’ll fight and play with character.”
