It has now been three months since Inter striker Lautaro Martinez was the man to take the decisive penalty in a penalty shootout between Argentine and the Netherlands at the World Cup, and the boost in confidence shows no signs of wearing off.
This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who note that in the weeks and now months since that penalty, the 25-year-old has looked like a player with a renewed sense of what he can accomplish in football.
Whilst Martinez’s penalty against the Netherlands was only one step along Argentina’s path to World Cup glory, it was a moment of great personal significance to the Inter striker.
The 25-year-old had not been having the best of tournaments, but he showed great composure to step up and take the final spot kick in a shootout to reach the semifinals of the competition.
Ever since then, things have seemed to only be trending upwards for Martinez.
The Argentine returned to his club looking like a player reborn, and his incredible form, both in terms of goals and his other contributions and increased sense of leadership within the team, now show no signs of slowing down.
