Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi could be playing for his future as Nerazzurri coach when he and his team face Porto in the Champions League round of sixteen second leg next week.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the club would likely sack the 46-year-old at the end of the season after one too many slip-ups in the league, but not if he can guide the team to the next round in Europe.

There is no disguising the impression that Inter have not lived up to their potential in Serie A this season.

There is no one person who is taking the full blame for this, but the coach is the one who the majority of the responsibility is put at the feet of.

For this reason, the Gazzetta suggests, Inzaghi’s future at Inter is very much in the balance.

However, the former Lazio coach would have a real lifeline in the form of next Tuesday’s Champions League match against Porto.

The Nerazzurri carry a 1-0 advantage from the first leg into the Estadio do Dragao, and the feeling is that if Inzaghi can mastermind progression into the quarterfinals of Europe’s club competition, he will still be on the bench next season.
