Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi will be keen to see striker Romelu Lukaku start on a path of “rebirth” at the Stadio Alberto Picco in this evening’s Serie A match against Spezia.

This is the suggestion in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who note that the 29-year-old has shown flashes of his quality since his return to fitness, but Inzaghi will be desperate to have him back to his actual best in the season’s run-in.

Since his belated return to fitness, Lukaku has had a few moments of obvious quality where it was made clear just how much of an impact he can have for Inter, not least his goal from the bench in the first leg of the team’s Champions League round of sixteen clash with Porto.

However, these moments have been punctuated by periods where the Belgian has still looked to have been in a lull as he still needs to rediscover his edge and find the ease that he had always had on the pitch in his first two seasons at Inter.

Lukaku is expected to start against Spezia this evening, and for Inzaghi, it would be massive if this match proves to be a springboard for the striker to have a “rebirth” as anything like the player he is capable of being.
