Former Inter coach Andrea Stramaccioni feels that the Nerazzurri could have the right set of fixtures on the way in the form of Porto in the Champions League and then Juventus in Serie A.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, the former coach argued that matches of that important could be ideal for bouncing back and regaining momentum after Friday’s loss away in La Spezia.

It has become something of a theme of Inter’s season that the team have dug themselves into a hole with badly-timed poor results and then gotten right back on their feet with statement wins when the pressure has really been on.

This may be something that they need to do again, as the surprise loss against relegation-threatened Spezia in the league has meant that the doubts about the team and coach are louder than ever.

From Stramaccioni’s perspective, however, it is ideal to have matches against teams like Porto and Juventus if that means that the Nerazzurri can really reassert themselves.

“Maybe I’m going against the tide, but it’s not the time to put this team on trial,” the former coach said.

“This is too important of a moment in Inter’s season,” he continued, “they have two ideal matches in which to reverse the trend and get back to their best.”

“There are undoubtedly problems with their performances, the losses against Bologna and Spezia are very different,” Stramaccioni added.

“In Bologna, Inter were unable to play like the real Inter, whereas against Spezia they played a great first half, bordering on perfection.”

“They created eight clear chances including a missed penalty, and they played very well,” the former coach noted.

“Then when an individual episode goes against this team, I think there are questions around whether they know how to react.”
