Participation in the quarterfinals of the Champions League and beyond could mean more to Inter than simply the sporting aspect of success on the pitch.

This is highlighted by today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Il Giornale, via FCInter1908, who note the fact that, if the Nerazzurri can find some unexpected revenue from a deep run into Europe’s top competition, they could make the summer transfer window less stressful.

Broadly speaking, the expectation has been that Inter will likely have another summer like the last couple, in which big names in the squad are linked with sales, and any signings that arrive are low-cost opportunities such as free transfers or loans.

However, this is premised on certain budgetary targets that the club have projected.

The expectation has never been that the team would be guaranteed of a place any further than the round of sixteen in the Champions League, which was itself never taken for granted.

Reaching the quarterfinals of the competition, and potentially progressing even further, would mean that Inter could potentially avoid at least one big sale that would otherwise be necessary, whilst it could make money available to reinforce the squad with a signing.
