Inter coach Simone Inzaghi is proud of his team for having written yet another chapter in the history of Inter by getting to the quarterfinals of the Champions League.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset following the Nerazzurri’s goalless draw away to Porto, via FCInter1908, the coach gave his immediate reaction to a match which saw his team gut out a tough draw to see out their first-leg advantage.

Inter have gotten into the last eight of the Champions League for the first time in over a decade.

It was certainly not easy, not just considering the tough two-legged tie against Porto but also the group stage which saw the Nerazzurri get out of a group containing Bayern Munich, Barcelona, and Viktoria Plzen.

This is far from the first time that the Nerazzurri have gotten to the latter stages of Europe’s top club competition, but it is one more chapter for the club, and a special moment for Inzaghi and this squad of players.

“We played an excellent match,” the coach said, “the guys did brilliantly, they were a tough group a team who are never easy to come up against.”

“We had an excellent first half, and then in the second we had to suffer right until the end.”

“This group has brought honour to the history of Inter,” he added.

Asked whether he felt that his team had gotten a bit lucky, Inzaghi stated that “Luck only matters relatively, over the balance of the two-legged tie we’ve deserved to reach the quarterfinals, we didn’t concede a single goal.”

“Now we will go into the quarterfinals with a lot of confidence,” the coach added.

And of criticisms that he’s faced in recent weeks, Inzaghi said that “I know which ones to listen to and which ones to tune out, for now I’m just celebrating and I’m very calm.”

“We’ve written a small piece of the history of Inter,” he added.

“We’re second in Serie A and we want to stay there, we’re in the semifinals of the Coppa Italia and the quarterfinals of the Champions League, on Sunday we face Juventus and we’ll prepare for that, but for now we’re just enjoying what we’ve done here,” Inzaghi concluded.
