Inter President Steven Zhang is very happy to see the Nerazzurri back in the last eight of the Champions League, and feels that the achievement is a result of the work that everyone has put in in recent years.

Speaking to InterTV after the team’s goalless draw against Porto yesterday evening, via FCInterNews, the Inter President reflected on the feeling of pride that comes from getting back into the quarterfinals of Europe’s top club competition.

In recent seasons, Inter have made some in-roads in the Champions League to complement the trophies that they have won domestically.

However, last season’s appearance in the round of sixteen was the furthest that the Nerazzurri had been able to progress up to that point, and saw them dumped out by eventual finalists Liverpool, who showed a little more nous at the highest European level.

Now, Inter have exceeded last season’s progress in order to find themselves back in the rarefied air of the latter stages of the Champions League.

“I’m very emotional, and proud of everyone who works at this club,” Zhang said after yesterday’s match.

“This result reflects our commitment, I want to thank all the players, coaches, and staff,” he added.

Of what the fans have meant to the team, the President said that “Our fans show a lot of passion and they give us energy, we’re grateful to always have them by our side, we work to give them these results.”
