Inter President Steven Zhang doesn’t hide the fact that he’d like to see a derby clash with AC Milan in the next round of the Champions League.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri President gave his thoughts on the emotions that facing the Rossoneri in Europe’s top club competition would mean.

Inter have followed their city rivals into the last eight of the Champions League with their draw against Porto yesterday evening, with the Rossoneri having already secure their place in similar circumstances with a goalless draw away to Tottenham Hotspur.

This means that there is every chance that the two teams could be drawn against one another in the next round in Friday’s draw, now that there are no restrictions on teams from the same country facing one another in a knockout tie.

Meanwhile, Napoli will also be hoping to book their own place in the next round by seeing out their two-legged tie against Eintracht Frankfurt this evening, and could face either of the Milan teams in the next round provided they get the job done.

Regarding the possibility of facing Milan in the quarterfinals, Zhang said that “All the teams left are strong, but I have to say that the derby has been the most emotional fixture for me, so yes, I’d like to see it happen.”

On what reaching the quarterfinals means for Inter, Zhang said that “At the start of every season we have a goal, which is to go as far as we can in every competition that we’re in.”

“Reaching the quarterfinals causes a lot of emotions, it shows that after seven years we’re heading in the right direction, and that everyone, including the coaching staff, is giving their all.”
