Inter defender Matteo Darmian put in a composed and error-free performance that proved vital to the Nerazzurri’s clean sheet in yesterday evening’s goalless draw away to Porto in the Champions League.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who made the 33-year-old one of three Inter players to earn a 7.5/10 grade in the player ratings for the match along with Andre Onana and Hakan Calhanoglu.

Darmian started on the right side of Inter’s back three, with Milan Skriniar fit enough to appear as a substitute but not yet ready to start as he was just coming back from an injury.

If the former Manchester United and Parma man was expected to be nothing more than a stopgap option in the position, his performance on the pitch said otherwise.

Darmian stuck to his task well, doing his best to keep Porto’s danger man Galeno quiet even when he was at times left one-on-one against the pacy and technical Brazilian winger.

The 33-year-old eventually had to come off in the second half, visibly knackered, but for the duration of his time on the pitch, didn’t put a foot wrong.

Meanwhile, the Corriere criticized Inter striker Lautaro Martinez for an anonymous and ineffective display leading the line, giving the Argentine a score of just 5/10.
