Hundreds of Inter fans were unable to enter the Estadio do Dragao for yesterday evening’s Champions League round of sixteen second leg away to Porto, and the reason why could have pertained to the way that tickets were sold.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper La Repubblica, via FCInterNews, who detail the possibility that the Portuguese club sold tickets to Nerazzurri fans in the away sections but then withdrew them to sell to home supporters.

Over the coming days, the question of exactly why hundreds of Inter fans who had showed up to the stadium having purchased tickets were denied entry will be looked into.

What is clear is that many fans ended up in a chaotic situation, whilst there have been complaints of rough treatment by law enforcement and match steward.

For La Repubblica, a major factor is the fact that, seemingly despite the fact that Porto did now allow Inter fans into the home section, they were able to purchase tickets there anyway.

Accordingly, if Nerazzurri fans had showed up with tickets that were not in the designated home section, these may have been withdrawn and then re-sold to home supporters.
