Inter defender Danilo D’Ambrosio may only have spent less than half the match on the pitch against Porto yesterday, but he was as important as anyone to the clean sheet and progression to the Champions League quarterfinals.

This is the verdict in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who reserve some praise for the 34-year-old for his display from the bench in yesterday’s round of sixteen second leg at the Estadio do Dragao.

D’Ambrosio arrived on the pitch right at the point where it seemed as though Inter’s energy levels were starting to drop just a bit as Porto probed for a goal with increasing fervency and desperation.

The 34-year-old proved to be a cool head in the situation, sticking to his task well to make sure that no gaps appeared in the Nerazzurri’s backline at the most vital moments in the match.

It may not have been a flashy display, but for Tuttosport it was emblematic of Inter’s successful approach, as D’Ambrosio used all his experience to make sure that all the good defensive work before his arrival on the pitch was not undone by one slip-up.
