Legendary former AC Milan coach Arrigo Sacchi feels that Inter have a strong squad but do not really live up to that quality with their performances on the pitch.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, Sacchi argued that the Nerazzurri have a better squad than Milan and Napoli, and also suggested that they were bailed out by goalkeeper Andre Onana against Porto.

There is no doubt about the fact that Inter are far back in the Serie A table from league leaders Napoli, whilst they are only narrowly ahead of city rivals Milan as well as the likes of Roma and Lazio.

More debatable is which of these sides have been underperforming, overperforming, or simply playing to the level of the players that they have.

From former Rossoneri coach Sacchi’s perspective, “”Inter have individual players that are of clearly superior quality to those that Napoli and Milan have, but on the pitch they play less well as a collective, I think they can do better.”

“I’d like it if they were more courageous tactically,” he continued, “if they didn’t always play with the spare man in defense, weakening the team in midfield and making pressing more difficult.”

“They certainly have the players, who else can turn to players like Brozovic and Lukaku from the bench?”

“But now they need to play a more attacking game,” he argued.

“Inzaghi’s a good coach, but I’m waiting for him to make the leap in quality,” Sacchi suggested of Inter’s coach.

Regarding Inter’s reaching the quarterfinals of the Champions League against Porto, Sacchi argued that “Sure, they got through, but they had to suffer, and not just a bit.”

“What would our judgments of them be today if it hadn’t been for Onana’s saves, and the last-ditch block on the goalline?” he posed.
