If Inter and AC Milan are to meet in the Champions League, then Rossoneri coach Stefano Pioli will have to try and reverse a one-sided recent trend in one-off matches between the pair.
This is highlighted in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who note that whilst Milan have often proven successful in the league meetings in the Milan derby, it has been Inter who have tended to prevail in knockout matches.
Inter and Milan faced off in a two-legged Coppa Italia semi-final last season.
Whilst the first leg of the tie was a tightly-fought goalless draw, in the second the Nerazzurri beat their city rivals 3-0 to reach the final, which they won against Juventus.
Then, the Nerazzurri won the Supercoppa Italiana match against Milan in January by the same 3-0 scoreline.
Pioli will be hoping that, should his team draw Inter in the quarterfinals of the Champions League or beyond, the result goes more like recent league meetings which Milan have gotten the better of.
