Chelsea-owned Spezia defender Ethan Ampadu feels that his team’s 2-1 win over Inter in Serie A last week was one of the highlights of his time playing in the Italian top flight.

Speaking to Florence-based newspaper La Nazione in an interview published in today’s print edition, via FCInterNews, the 22-year-old Welsh international named the victory as a particularly satisfying moment since he first started playing in the league.

Ampadu spent last season on loan at Venezia before making the switch on loan to Spezia this time around.

The Welshman, who has also been on loan at RB Leipzig and Sheffield United from Chelsea, has not always had the easiest time during his time in Italian football, although he has put in some standout performances.

Ampadu certainly put in a good display against Inter last Friday, particularly in the second half of the match, and for him it was a particularly special match considering the scalp that Spezia grabbed as they seek to stave off relegation.

Asked if it was his best moment in Serie A, the Welshman replied that “It’s certainly one of them.”

“It was great to get an assist against Inter at San Siro last season, and now to be part of the first Spezia to beat them at the Picco is brilliant,” he added.

“When you find yourself up against players of the calibre of Romelu Lukaku, Lautaro Martinez, and Edin Dzeko, you know that they can find the play that leads to a goal at any moment,” the 22-year-old added, “so you always have to be alert, aggressive, and not take anything for granted.”

“We had to defend as a single united, and I think we did so very well,” he added.
