Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi has no doubts that the team’s upcoming Champions League quarterfinal tie against Benfica will be a major challenge, but he has faith that they can give even more reason to dream to their fans.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, the 46-year-old gave his reaction to the draw for the quarterfinal stage, which sees the Nerazzurri come up against the Portuguese league leaders in a two-legged tie next month.

Inter only returned from Portugal where they saw out a goalless draw away to Porto to reach the quarterfinals of the Champions League, but they’ll have another trip soon enough.

The Nerazzurri will make the trip to the Estadio da Luz to face Benfica in the first leg, before hosting the Lisbon giants at the San Siro in the second as they aim for a place in the semifinals where they could face either AC Milan or Napoli.

Inzaghi is well aware of the challenge that Benfica will pose for them, but he did not hold back in expressing optimism that they can do something special for their fans.

“Inter are back in the quarterfinals of the Champions League, and we’re very proud of that fact because a club like this deserves to play in these kinds of matches,” the coach said.

“Against Benfica we’ll play two great matches which I’m sure will have brilliant atmosphere and the stakes appropriate to this phase of the competition,” he continued.

Inzaghi noted that “Benfica are a strong team with a great sense of tradition, and they won their group by playing good football.”

“However, we haven’t been eliminated yet, and we want to gift our fans yet another dream,” the coach said.

“These will be two tough but no doubt exciting matches, we’ll all work to be at our best and leave nothing to chance to try and get through to the next round.”
