Inter Vice-President Javier Zanetti is still hoping that the Nerazzurri could have a Champions League derby against AC Milan in order, even though they’ve avoided their city rivals in the quarterfinal stage of the competition.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, via FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri Vice-President gave his thoughts on the possibility of a meeting with the Rossoneri in Europe’s top competition, which would take place in the semifinals if both teams are to make it that far.

Inter did not get Milan in the quarterfinals of the Champions League in this morning’s draw, but it was revealed that they will face the Rossoneri in the semifinal stage if both progress to the next round.

The Nerazzurri will have a tough two-legged tie against Benfica to navigate if they are to get that far, whilst the Rossoneri must try to get past Serie A league leaders Napoli.

For his part, Zanetti is still hoping that the two teams can still end up meeting in Europe.

“For the moment, we’re a bit relieved,” he said of avoiding Milan, “April will be a very crowded fixture list for us.”

“However, we still hope to face them later on,” Zanetti added.
