Legendary former AC Milan head coach Arrigo Sacchi feels that considering the squad that they have, Inter should look to control matches more than they do.

Writing in his column in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, the former Rossoneri coach gave the view that the Nerazzurri must back themselves to dominate matches given their quality.

One of Sacchi’s persistent criticisms of Inter’s style of play under coach Simone Inzaghi has been that they do not look to clearly impose their own style of play and preferred tempo on matches.

Instead, the Nerazzurri are too focused on trying to react to opponents and nullify their strengths, in the view of the former coach.

Sacchi’s view is that Inter’s squad should have sufficient quality to be more proactive in matches, and that this is the next step that the team must take at the European level.

He writes that “Even though I consider the Nerazzurri’s squad to be made up of players of the highest physical and technical level, [they don’t control matches].”

“Often, however, Inzaghi’s team (and this was certainly the case in Porto) waits for the opponent, grants them domination of the pitch, and in so doing, especially in the Champions League, take a big risk.”

“In Europe it’s necessary to play at a high tempo and always try to keep the ball, because if you allow it to your opposition, who are technically gifted, it can become a problem,” Sacchi argues.

“As such, Inter must believe more in their own quality,” he adds.
