Legendary former Inter, Roma, Real Madrid, and Sampdoria forward Antonio Cassano doesn’t believe that the situation for Serie A teams is anywhere near as positive as it looks in European competition.

Speaking on Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel, via FCInter1908, the former forward argued that Inter in particularly were very fortunate to reach the quarterfinals of the Champions League, and that the reality is that the standard is not high for teams in the Italian top flight.

Cassano has rarely held back in expressing his views on the game, and particularly regarding his former side the Nerazzurri.

In the former Italy international’s view, the Nerazzurri have had to ride their luck to get as far as they have in the Champions League.

Moreover, Cassano does not believe that things have been much better from the other Italian teams who have managed to keep themselves afloat in European competition.

“A lot of the newspapers here are saying that we’re rediscovering the defensive side of the game here, but I think that’s bullsh*t,” the former forward argued.

“It’s like we’re playing football from ten years ago, you can watch brilliant football elsewhere but not here.”

Cassano argued that “Things are going well this season, but not in the long term.”

“We play with a low tempo, no rhythm to the game, it’s just catenaccio with no ideas.”

Cassano predicted that “Roma, Inter, and Juventus will get eliminated by weaker teams on paper.”

“Inter had to be very lucky to get past Porto, they played terribly, they played like a**,” the former forward didn’t hold back.
