Legendary former Inter defender Marco Materazzi is hoping that tomorrow evening’s Derby d’Italia match against Juventus in Serie A will be decided by a player who has a strong sense of connection to the Nerazzurri.

Speaking to the Lega Serie A’s official social media channel, via FCInterNews, Materazzi also gave his thoughts on Simone Inzaghi as Inter coach, praising the 46-year-old and the job that he has done in charge of the Nerazzurri.

Inter will go into tomorrow’s match against the Bianconeri knowing that, apart from its significance for the league table, the result will also mean something more due to the historical rivalry between the two teams.

There is little doubt of the fact that the derby match is one that fans of both clubs are always desperate to win, whilst there is a feeling that it can be an occasion to really mark special moments for important players.

“I hope that a player like Barella or Dimarco can decide it,” Materazzi said, “someone who has a really strong connection to Inter.”

“Calhanoglu is another player who’s become like that, Bastoni, Lautaro, it is good to see so many players who have such a strong attachment to this club, and I hope that one of them can be important tomorrow.”

Of Inzaghi, the former defender argued that “In my opinion, Inzaghi is an excellent coach, he’s won several trophies.”

“Still, he’s yet to win the one title that would really allow him to make the leap,” he added.

“It’s hard to be considered a truly top coach without the Serie A title,” Materazzi suggested.
