More doubt is being cast on the future of Inter coach Simone Inzaghi after the Nerazzurri suffered a ninth defeat of the season in Serie A in yesterday evening’s match against Juventus.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who argue that it’s impossible to ignore the questions around the 46-year-old’s suitability in his role, and that he could be relying on the Champions League to stay in his position.

The fact that Inter have suffered nine defeats in the league this season, losing fully one third of the 27 matches that they’ve played thus far, is certainly a ways off what will have been expected of them before the season began.

Whilst there is always room for one or two results to go against a coach, the Gazzetta argues, losses like yesterday evening’s have now become too persistent of a problem, and cannot be ignored.

Inzaghi could have a lifeline in Europe, as he and the Nerazzurri will face a Champions League quarterfinal tie against Benfica next month which will provide the opportunity to put a more positive gloss on the disappointing season in the league.

However, without going any further in that competition, things could get a lot tougher for Inzaghi from now onwards, the Gazzetta suggests.
