Inter took to the pitch against Juventus yesterday evening like a team who were already beaten even well before the Bianconeri’s contentious first-half goal.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who argue that regardless of the controversy around the match’s only goal the Nerazzurri’s performance looked like that of a team lacking any conviction.

Since the return from the winter break, Inter’s specialty has been putting in statement performances against direct rivals in Serie A.

Wins against Napoli and AC Milan have shown that, even amid broadly inconsistent form over the past couple of months, the Nerazzurri are capable of rising to the biggest occasions.

Against Juventus yesterday evening, however, there was a sense that Inter were not prepared for the challenges that the match would present.

Against a Bianconeri team who showed no lack of organization or motivation and virtually dared Inter to break them down, the Nerazzurri moved the ball too slowly and looked devoid of imagination.

In the view of the Corriere, Inter can blame the handball controversy all they want, but the fact is that they didn’t look like a team who had the right approach the match one way or the other.
