Italian Media Criticize Denzel Dumfries’ Defensively Clueless Display In Inter Milan’s 0-1 Serie A Loss Vs Juventus

Inter wingback Denzel Dumfries has come in for criticism in Italian media for his performance in yesterday evening’s 0-1 Serie A loss to Juventus.

The 26-year-old received a grade of just 4.5/10 in the player ratings for the match published in today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews, who particularly highlight his lack of defensive awareness.

Dumfries started yesterday’s match at right-wingback with Matteo Darmian called into action as part of the back three, but the sense was palpable that the former PSV man did not provide the same kind of defensive coverage on the right flank that Darmian does.

The Dutchman had a torrid time trying to mark Filip Kostic down the Nerazzurri’s right side, with disastrous consequences as he found himself in no-man’s-land for the Serb’s goal.

Meanwhile, Tuttosport also argue that Inter goalkeeper Andre Onana had one of his first real major errors as a Nerazzurri player, as he too found himself rooted in place and positioned poorly for Kostic’s effort.
