The father of Inter-linked Tigre striker Mateo Retegui has spoken about the player’s future, and made no secret of the fact that he feels an admiration for some Nerazzurri strikers past and present.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, via FCInterNews, the 23-year-old’s father Carlos Retegui explained that the player was a huge fan of former Nerazzurri striker Christian Vieri growing up, and that now he is a great admirer of Lautaro Martinez.

Retegui has been linked with a number of clubs across Europe in the past few weeks, and Inter have certainly been among them.

The fact that the 23-year-old, who was born in Argentina but holds an Italian passport, has been called up by Italy coach Roberto Mancini has meant that teams in Serie A are in the forefront of those linked with a move.

The Nerazzurri have been reported to be following Retegui as a prospective target.

“He grew up adoring Bobo Vieri, now he’s a huge fan of Lautaro Martinez and also Zlatan Ibrahimovic who he admires for his character and technique,” Retegui’s father said.

He added that “Right now, he’s entirely focused on Tigre and on the Italian national team, but who knows if he could get a move to a team in Europe.”
