Serie A referee-designator Gianluca Rocchi is ahppy with the manner in which the handball incident in the buildup to Juventus’s goal against Inter on Sunday was handled.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that Rocchi feels that the correct procedures were followed by the video assistant, and has also been annoyed by Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi coming out swinging at the officials.

There was a very lengthy VAR check to deliberate on whether or not to disallow Filip Kostic’s first-half goal for Juventus in Sunday’s Derby d’Italia match in Serie A.

The eventual conclusion reached was that whilst there may have been contact by Bianconeri midfielder Adrien Rabiot’s arm on the ball, it was ultimately inconclusive whether he or striker Dusan Vlahovic had deliberately handled the ball.

Whilst this decision did not go down well with Inter and Inzaghi, to put it mildly, Rocchi has seen no problem with the VAR’s decision not to intervene on an incident where there was as much as uncertainty as Rabiot’s contact on the ball.

Meanwhile, Rocchi has reportedly not appreciated the fact that Inter coach Inzaghi took his post-match remarks as an opportunity to primarily focus on the refereeing of the incident, demanding “respect” from the officials.
