Inter defender Stefan de Vrij’s agent has updated that the player is considering the possibility of a new challenge elsewhere when his contract with the Nerazzurri expires, but that he is also open to signing a new deal.

Speaking to Italian news outlet TuttoMercatoWeb, the Dutchman’s agent Federico Pastorello made clear that both a move away on a free transfer and a contract extensions with the Nerazzurri are possibilities for the end of the season.

De Vrij’s current contract runs out at the end of June 2023, although Inter have offered the former Lazio defender a new contract.

The Nerazzurri would be more than happy to keep the 31-year-old, who joined on a free transfer from the Biancocelesti in the summer of 2018, beyond the end of the season.

From the player’s perspective, his agent has explained, de Vrij considers the offer of an extension that the Nerazzurri have made to be a good one and has not ruled out the possibility of staying, although he is also considering other options.

“We’ve held some talks, the club has shown Stefan the high regard they hold him in by making him a very good offer of a new deal,” Pastorello explained.

“It’s one of the options available to him, they’ve made a contract offer for another two seasons, we’re satisfied with the offer,” he added,

“Stefan is taking his time,” the agent explained, “after ten years in Italy we’re looking around to see if the possibility is there for trying a new experience somewhere else.”

“He’s satisfied, though, and I can’t rule out a contract extension,” Pastorello clarified.
