Italian journalist Ciro Venerato has completely and categorically denied that there is interest in rivalling Inter for the signature of Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino from Napoli.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster TG Sport RAI, via FCInter1908, the Neapolitan journalist poured a lot of cold water on rumours from the UK press that the Partenopei could decide to target the Brazilian, who has been reportedly on Inter’s shortlist in attack.

It has been confirmed that Firmino will leave Liverpool on a free transfer at the end of the season, with the 31-year-old having told his club that he does not intend to sign a new contract, and his deal expires at the end of June.

The Nerazzurri have been widely reported to be thinking about a move for Firmino on a free transfer during the summer transfer window.

There have been rumours that Napoli are also interested, but Italian journalist Venerato feels that there is absolutely no truth to these rumours.

“There is absolutely no interest from Napoli in signing Firmino,” he said in response to the rumours.

“Their plans revolve around looking to sign younger strikers, and they don’t pay wages over €2.5 million net per season,” he added.

“So no, Firmino is absolutely not part of the Azzurri’s plans.”
