Inter Milan striker Edin Dzeko has suffered a back injury during training with Bosnia and Herzegovina national team which kept him sidelined in 3-0 win over Iceland.

This according to Bosnia national team coach Faruk Hadzibegic in the official post match press conference following their opening Euro 2024 qualifying win in Zenica after a brace from AC Milan midfielder Rade Krunic.

When asked why Dzeko didn’t feature at all in the win over Iceland, Hadzibegic stated that Dzeko has sustained the injury “during the last training session” before their opening Euro 2024 qualifying match.

Hadzibegic continued that Bosnia hope to have him back for the clash against Slovakia on the 26th but that as of yet they don’t know how long he will be out for.

“It’s possible we’ll have back Dzeko, who sustained a back injury, some sort of ligament, perhaps it’s better if you speak to the doctor. I don’t want to say something inaccurate.

“We tried to get him better, we also wrote to FIFA and UEFA to ask if we could go further in his treatment and they said no. So today we couldn’t count on him.”

So far this season, the former Manchester City player has featured 38 times for Inter across all competitions scoring 11 goals in the process, seven of which have come in the Serie A.

Dzeko joined the Nerazzurri in the summer of 2021 from Roma and has to date featured 87 times across all competitions finding the back of the net a total of 28 times.

The legendary Bosnian international striker Edin Dzeko has won 126 caps for his country scoring 64 times in the process.
