Inter striker Lautaro Martinez has admitted that he hasn’t looked back at the images of the World Cup apart from those of his celebrations of Argentina’s eventual victory.

Speaking to Argentine newspaper Clarin, via FCInterNews, the 25-year-old opened up about how the tournament itself was a painful one for him on a number of levels due to an ankle injury, even if ended in the best way possible.

Martinez won international football’s biggest prize with Argentina in December, although in truth the Inter striker didn’t have quite the impact that had been expected of him.

The 25-year-old has later admitted that he was playing through an ankle problem, and his form at the tournament was not very good on an individual level compared to his usual standards at club and international level.

Martinez was eventually dropped from the Albiceleste’s starting eleven for Manchester City’s Julain Alvarez, although he did have his part to play from the bench.

“I haven’t revisited any of the images from the tournament,” the Inter striker admitted, “apart from those where I’m celebrating afterwards with my wife and my friends.”

Explaining why, Martinez noted that “It was a painful tournament for me personally, I wasn’t able to have the kind of World Cup that I wanted to due to an ankle injury that I was playing through.”
