Inter consider Tigre striker Mateo Retegui a major target, and have had him on their radar for over a year.

This according to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, who reported via Gianluca Di Marzio’s homepage that the Nerazzurri would be in a strong position to sign the 23-year-old given their relationship with Tigre, particularly with striker Facundo Colidio on loan at the club.

Retegui has had the spotlight on him since his surprise call-up to the Italian national team, and his goal for the Azzurri in yesterday evening’s EURO 2024 qualifying match against England has only increased the attention.

According to Sky, however, reporter Marco Barzaghi has ascertained that Inter have in fact been tracking the striker for over a year.

Nerazzurri Assistant Sporting Director has been watching Retegui’s performances during his scouting trips to South America, and has made the club well aware of the player’s quality and potential.

Retegui is currently on loan at Tigre from Boca Juniors, but the former will exercise a €2.5 million purchase option.

50% of the fee from a sale of the Italian international will be owed to Boca based on a clause in the deal with Tigre, Di Marzio details.

The Nerazzurri are targeting Retegui, although they are well aware of the fact that the emerging attention on the 23-year-old will only increase the price tag, particularly after yesterday evening’s goal against England.

However, Inter could be hoping that their strong relations with Tigre assist in a deal, particularly considering the Argentine club are keen to permanently sign Nerazzurri striker Colidio after a successful loan spell.
