Inter defender Francesco Acerbi put in a solid enough shift in the Italian national team’s 1-2 EURO 2024 qualifying loss to England yesterday, whilst his club teammate Nicolo Barella was unimpressive in midfield.

This is the view in the player ratings for the match published across Italian media for the match, as reported by FCInterNews, where Acerbi mostly got solid grades but the scores for Barella were quite mediocre.

Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport gave Acerbi a 6.5/10 score despite the Azzurri conceding twice, but Barella received just a 5/10 grade and was criticized for his lacklustre display as Italy were overrun in midfield in the first half.

Meanwhile, Rome-based Corriere dello Sport awarded Acerbi a 6/10 grade and Barella just 4.5/10, as they were even more critical of the 26-year-old’s lack of impact in the midfield battle.

Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport were more critical of Acerbi, awarding the 35-year-old a score of just 5/10, the same grade they gave Barella.
