Even though Inter’s financial problems are well-known, they are no excuse for the inconsistent performances of the team this season under Simone Inzaghi.

This is the view in today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who argue that the coach has gotten a squad that is more than good enough despite the financial issues that the club faces, and that the team’s performance levels have been his responsibility.

It is certainly true that Inter have been restricted in building a squad for Inzaghi by the fact that they must not only spend within a budget, but actually turn a net profit from the transfer market.

However, the Gazzetta argues, the club’s directors found ways around this, delivering the signings of players like Andre Onana, Hakan Calhanoglu, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Edin Dzeko, and Francesco Acerbi at low or no cost.

Moreover, the newspaper notes, the remnants of the squad that was in place before Inzaghi was appointed in 2021 also make up for a very strong squad.

The Gazzetta take the position that, even within the very obvious financial constraints, the club have worked very well to put together a squad of the quality that they have done, and it has been the coach who has not done enough to capitalize on their efforts.
