The President of the Lombardia region expects that AC Milan are keen to lay the first stone on a new stadium in the La Maura area, and that they will do so on their own without Inter.
Speaking to Italian news outlet TVPlay.it, Lombardia region President Attillo Fontana related what he understands to be the position of Rossoneri President Gerry Cardinale, and also explained that as of yet the Nerazzurri have not yet made clear their intentions.
Whilst there is still some way to go before Milan fully and decisively make the break from the existing plans of building a new stadium in place of the San Siro, the sense is that the wheels are very much in motion.
From his perspective, Lombardia region President Fontana has no doubt that this is the Rossoneri’s plan, and that they have a specific timeline in mind for when they want to get started.
“I think AC Milan will lay the first stone on a new stadium in the next two or three years,” he said.
“It’s not certain that it will be in La Maura, but Cardinale wants to get it started.”
Fontana also noted of a new stadium that “It would be just for Milan and for their youth team.”
As far as Inter, he said that “I haven’t spoken to them yet.”
“I’ve read that they’re interested in building outside of Milan, but I’ve received no confirmation of this.”
