Inter striker Romelu Lukaku is hoping that his hat-trick for the Belgian national team in a 3-0 win against Sweden yesterday evening can be a platform for him to finish the season at his best.

Speaking in a press conference after the match, as reported by FCInterNews, the 29-year-old told his club the Nerazzurri that he wants to finally show what he can really do in the run-in of the season.

It would be an understatement to say that the first part of the campaign has not gone according to plan for Lukaku upon the Belgian’s return from Chelsea.

Injuries and inconsistent form have meant that Lukaku has had nowhere near the kind of impact that he had done in his first spell with the Nerazzurri.

Moreover, a lacklustre World Cup with Belgian introduced further doubts about whether the 29-year-old can ever recover his best form following his ill-fated move to Chelsea in 2021.

However, the striker certainly showed how devastating he can be in front of goal by signing on with a match-winning hat-trick against Sweden in the Red Devils’ first match in the qualifying process for the 2024 Euros.

After the match, Lukaku said that “Now I’m ready to show what I’m really capable of.”

“I feel like a point of reference for this Belgian side,” he added, “I’ve been trying to get more younger players involved in training as well.”

Of the change to the style of play under new Belgium coach Domenico Tedesco, Lukaku said that “We’re playing a different game now, more attack-minded.”
