Inter striker Romelu Lukaku has told Inter directors that he wants to stay next season, but he will have to prove himself on the pitch in order to do so.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that the 29-year-old will have the matches across the run-in of the season in three competitions to try and convince the Nerazzurri to extend his loan from Chelsea.

At the moment, Inter are leaning towards not extending Lukaku’s loan from Chelsea when it expires at the end of June, although they are very open to being convinced otherwise by the striker’s performances.

The Belgian is keenly aware of the fact that Inter have a massively important cycle of matches between Serie A, the Coppa Italia, and the Champions League on the way.

Lukaku is hoping that, particularly in the quarterfinal tie against Benfica in the latter competition he is given the opportunity to show what he is capable.

The 29-year-old knows that it is now or never for him to prove himself in his second spell at Inter, and he has made clear to the club that he is extremely keen to do so.
