Inter will be hoping that the recoveries of wingbacks Federico Dimarco and Robin Gosens and defender Alessandro Bastoni are on track as a decisive month of April looms for the team across all competitions.

This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews, who report that Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi is holding his breath hoping to avoid an injury crisis in defense and at left-wingback.

Inter’s squad were stretched very thin heading into the international break, with a makeshift backline starting against Juventus and Dimarco having to come off with an injury during the second half of the match against the Bianconeri.

Danilo D’Ambrosio was repurposed into the left-wingback role for the second half of that match, and the versatile 34-year-old will not even be available for Inter’s next two matches due to suspension after his involvement in an altercation at the end of the Juventus match.

All of this means that Inzaghi will be very keen to see at least one of Dimarco and Gosens, and ideally both, return for next Saturday’s return to Serie A action against Fiorentina.

The same is certainly true of Alessandro Bastoni on the left side of defense, with the Nerazzurri coach hoping to recover players as soon as possible for the run-in of the season as the team fight on three fronts.

Milan Skriniar’s complicates things, as the Slovakian defender continues his recovery from a back injury.

According to the Corriere, all of Dimarco, Gosens, and Bastoni are recovering at pace to be available against Fiorentina, but over the next day or two some decisive progress will be needed from the trio.

In the event that neither Dimarco nor Gosens are fit to start against La Viola, the Corriere reports, Matteo Darmian will likely play at left-wingback.
